Vienna Austria continued

A tour of the Schönbrunn Palace - the Imperial Summer Residence.

Our tour guide Gabrielle uses a model of the palace to give an historical overview.

No photography was permitted so these photos are copied from the palace website.

The Great Gallery was an ideal setting for courtly events with its gilt stucco decoration
 and magnificent ceiling frescoes.

The Porcelain Room served as Empress Maria Theresa's private writing room. The framed drawings on the walls were made by her children. Over the course of twenty years, Maria Theresa gave birth to sixteen children, thirteen of whom survived infancy.

Hmmmm...this sentry looks familiar.

Schönbrunn's Baroque Gardens were intended to be an impressive symbol of imperial power.

In the evening, we dressed for an evening of Mozart and Strauss. The historic venue was grand and the music and dancing was spectacular. Naturally one of the pieces performed was "The Blue Danube" waltz.
