Our spring travels began on Saturday, March 31 at 6 a.m. as we set off on a 12-hour drive from Delaware to Roswell, Georgia. The change in scenery was magical as the further south we went; the trees transformed from stark bare branches to bursts of tiny green buds to an explosion of white, pink and lavender blossoms. BJ and Jim's garden was alive with budding azalea bushes and yellow and pink tulips and flowering white dogwood trees. Here we are on our way to Easter dinner at Foundation Social Eatery, our favorite restaurant for special occasions when we are all together.
On Easter Monday we set off on a drive to north-western Georgia in search of The Rock Garden near Calhoun Georgia. This hidden treasure is a magical place. Over 50 miniature buildings constructed of stone and shells and inhabited by porcelain figurines are set in a park-like setting along a meandering creek. From historic buildings like Notre Dame cathedral to Cinderella's Castle and the Colosseum in Rome, this wonderland was built entirely by volunteers.
On our last evening together we attended a concert at the Rialto in Midtown Atlanta by the Georgia State University Percussion Ensemble. In addition to traditional percussion instruments such as vibraphones and drums, the students made music by tapping on glass bottles and clay flowerpots. In this photo they are performing a piece titled Bookoctet where the rhythm was made by manipulating books in a variety of ways.
