Colmar France

One of the wonders of travel is that sometimes you’re in the right place at the right time…as if the universe is ushering you along the path you are meant to follow. Today was filled with those moments…we arrived at the Strasbourg train station to store our luggage in lockers right before the crowds came…we found the last table for two in the cafe for breakfast…and we happened to remember to validate our ticket before boarding the train to Colmar.

This pretty village is known for its Alsatian charm. The medieval half-timbered houses with their flowery window boxes fill every cobblestoned street.

In the Catholic Church of Saint Martin, a welcoming area for children complete with child-sized furniture was next to the altar.
The Covered Market in the Little Venice section was designed in 1865. This stall featured the Alsatian white asparagus as well as many beautiful local fruits and vegetables.

The Meter Man
Colmar is the birthplace of Auguste Bartholdi the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. Notice the tiny Lady Liberty behind his right soldier.
As we were walking I said to Sam, “Let’s go this way.” We saw two musicians carrying cello cases into a church. Posted on the church door was a flyer for a free concert! We returned at 5:00pm for a beautiful hour-long concert featuring twenty cellists and two musicians that played the accordion! It was spectacular!
