Strasbourg France

After about 15 hours of travel and layovers, we gratefully arrived at our hotel in Strasbourg. Located directly across from the train station, the balcony overlooks the modern glass-curved ceiling over the station.  Surprisingly the area was quiet and we slept well.

Reservations at Restaurant Le Kuhn at 8:00 PM. Sam ordered escargots and vegetarian flammekeueche, an Alsatian tarte flambée. I enjoyed a fresh green salad and delicious salmon with a glass of local Reisling.

Tomorrow we will start our four day walk along the Alsace Wine Route so today we visited the Alsatian Museum. There were so many interesting objects unique to this region’s culture.

A ceremonial costume for a young man being conscripted, complete with a beribboned hat.
A bridal couple. Brides wore a black dress that would be reworn for other future occasions.
So many fascinating objects in the kitchen including the pretty painted pottery and the bread slicer.
A birthing chair and cradle where the infants are strapped in by ribbons wrapped around spindles along the side.

Ex-votos from the Latin expression meaning “in consequence of a vow.” Objects placed on a saint’s altar to request a favor (healing of a limb) or offer thanksgiving for prayers answered.

Alsatian pottery.

Handcrafted infant walker.

Large ceramic stove with wood drying rack above.
